THE WIDOW

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy. Psalm 68:5

Did you know

that the average age of a widow is only 56 years old? After the death of their husband, most widows lose touch with their network of friends and over half suffer from serious health issues within the first year. These women often experience financial decline and one-third meet the criteria for clinical depression. Many of the women who suffer loss want to connect, but they are unsure how to get started.

How can you show love and compassion to the widows in your community?

CityServe testimonies include stories of local PODs providing support groups to widows, home furnishings, volunteer handymen, grocery assistance, and other acts of kindness to those who have lost their loved ones. Some CityServe churches even have access to discounted housing for seniors.

“Our CityServe partnership with Gleaners has helped us to provide grocery bags to over 60-75 seniors and widows through our church community two times every month.”
